Ceramic Tile Installation Process
Installing Ceramic Tiles may be a simple process, but it does require some patience and attention to detail.
First the correct tiles must be chosen, depending on their end application (kitchen floor, bathroom wall, etc)
A smooth a leveled floor is very important. It the floor is not leveled, it is essential to lay down a sub-floor. As the tiles are not flexible they may become cracked in time, if they have been laid on a rough surface.
It is also essential to create the right consistency of substrate, to the tiles have a solid base on which to bond to.
Once the substrate has been applied, it is time to set the ceramic tile. This may be the most tedious out of the entire process. Normally tile laying should take 1-3 days, depending on the environment. It is important to let the tiles dry overnight so that the remainder of the work can be finished by stepping on the freshly laid ceramic tiles. The details and timelines must be discussed with the installer in advance to ensure it fits with our customer’s schedules.
The last step is to lay the grout which is needed to blend the lines of the tiles and edges. It is essential to not use to much water, so to prevent it getting in between the tiles and eroding the grout in the future.
A thorough cleaning with a damp sponge and a rinse with water will finish the job and let you enjoy your brand new space!
Note: Coming to an agreement prior to starting the job is important, and preferably in writing, such as a quotation or a contract. This will ensure the expectations are set from the beginning.
